Name of the Indonesian Institute of The Art Yogyakrata is known as an institution of higher education with the status of domestic arts college management, and has the authority to provide education to the highest level.

Institute of The Art Yogyakrata was established on Presidential Decree No: 39/1984 dated May 30, 1984, and inaugurated the establishment by the Ministry of Education and Culture, Professor. Dr. Nugroho Notosusanto, on July 23, 1984.

ISI Yogyakarta is one of four state universities located in Yogyakarta, in addition Sunana Kalijaga State Islamic University in Yogyakarta, Gadjah Mada University and the University of Yogyakarta.Sementara that there are still approximately 59 private universities under the Private Higher Education Coordinating (Kopertis) Region V Region of Yogyakarta.
